EXAMINING THE QUALITY OF HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN GHANA

Abstract: As the transition to value-based care, the focus on patient care is shifting to quality. Healthcare outcomes for the patient are more important for the physician than the number of patients seen during the day. The objective of the study was to assess the quality of health care among patients at the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital. The study used a cross-sectional design with a sample size of 400 patients. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Quantitative data from the questionnaire were coded and analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS version 20.0. Results of the study showed that most of the respondents (85.0%) were satisfied with accessibility, technical competence (72.3%), recovery rate (52.5%), equity of services (85.2%) and effectiveness of care (78.7%) with average care of 74.5%. Most of the respondents (77.2%) had a good perception of the facility and care received. The adherence to principles of quality assurance by respondents most of them (78.7%) was satisfied. It was also challenging facing patients and management including financial and security at the facility. The study concluded that the hospital’s care for the patients was above average manifesting in the good perception of patients about the hospital. It is recommended that management should continue to adhere to the key service quality dimensions at the hospital to improve health care delivery facility should educate the public on their activities to improve patient’s quality of health care at the hospital.
